Learn Aerial Silks at Blush. We run aerial silks classes and private lessons for all levels of student from beginner to advanced.
Practicing Aerial Silks is rewarding and challenging, and anyone can start! Our lessons are designed to welcome the most unco-ordinated and unfit, to the most skilled, strong and capable.
We level all our aerial silks classes, so you learn alongside students who are a similar level to you, this promotes a fun and focussed environment, where you feel part of the group and that you CAN DO IT!
Our lessons run in terms of 6 weeks, during each term you learn tricks in the aerial silks, perform strengthening exercises, and work towards combinations of tricks. These build towards a mini routine, set to music in the air.
Our routines are choreographed to the level of the class and do not require you to have any former dance training. You will learn and practise the tricks, skills and combinations each week to build confidence through repetition. Having something to show at the end of each term builds a sense of achievement. More information on how to book our aerial silks classes, how we organise our levels, what to wear and who can attend is below.

Our professionally qualified and passionate teachers create lessons using our bespoke syllabus of moves. Lessons are levelled from Beginners – Advanced to offer clear progression and structured and safe development of skills. The syllabus ensures that our classes will challenge, encourage safe progression, and motivation to progress at a pace which is right for the student. There is no pressure to work through our syllabus at any pace other than that which is right for you.
As students achieve moves at each level they are awarded with a certificate of completion of the level and then invited to progress to work on moves from the next syllabus level. This helps motivation as students can monitor their own progress.
There are 6 levels in our syllabus and our classes indicate which levels of the syllabus you can learn in which class. An introduction of what you can expect to learn at each level is listed on the next slide.
Level 1 – 2 (Beginners & Amateurs) Ideal for complete beginners and those with some knowledge of aerial silks. At this level class you will learn: Tricks & combinations in the knotted silks, standing, climbing and safe descents, foot locks in a single silk and with both silks together, movement of the silks and how to manage this including working creatively with the fabric on the floor.
You will also practice strengthening and conditioning of shoulders, feet and core to increase body awareness and ability to work in the silks correctly. You will practise combinations of basic and foundation tricks to promote your strength endurance and stamina in the air. As your endurance increases you will be able to stay in the air for longer and develop an ability to perform small routines to music.
This level of class welcomes all levels, shapes and sizes. No need to have experience of dance or aerial. No need to have an ability to lift your own body weight or level of strength to start. However if you do, you may find that you progress through our levelled classes quicker than someone who does not. This is how we keep our classes inclusive.
Level 3 – 4 (Intermediate & Advanced Intermediate) Ideal for those with confidence in the foundation moves. At this level you will learn: Inverts, how to work dynamically in the air, locked drops, how to work with split silks and both feet in footlocks, how to safely perform and remove footlocks in the air, creative climbs, how to increase your technique and form to be more efficient in the air.
You will continue to practice strengthening and conditioning of shoulders, focussing on specific mobility for the extensive range of movement needed to perform aerial tricks. You will practise challenging tricks and combinations using a mix of foundation and intermediate skills. Your repertoire of moves will increase and your ability to perform a higher level of tricks in the air as well as stamina in the air will increase. You will continue to perform routines and also be introduced to how to create your own combinations. The classes will use skills and combinations to build towards routines.
This level of class welcomes students who have passed level 2 aerial silks at Blush or are working on the skills listed above but have not attended classes with Blush previously.
Level 5 – 6 (Advanced & Elite) Ideal for students who are confident at the foundation and intermediate skills. At this level you will learn: How to safely work at greater heights for longer, aerial inverts, complex combinations, tricks including unlocked drops and balances, how to be creative in your aerial work and how to perform and create routines.
You will be encouraged to train more than one hour per week to maintain your foundation skills. This may be at another aerial equipment or at a self practice session. This promotes a consistency and dedication to your technique, ability and skills. It ensures you are safe and avoiding injuries which are common when training at such depths. It promote body awareness and respect for your equipment, body and art form.
This level of class welcomes students who have passed level 4 aerial silks at Blush or are working on the skills listed above but have not attended classes with Blush previously.
What do I wear to Aerial Skills Classes?
We recommend tight fitting clothes which cover arms and legs for aerial silks, for example leggings, vest tops/leotards/jumpsuits. It is important you can move and feel comfortable but also that no cords, zips or buttons can get caught in the fabric. If you wear a top with short sleeves, please bring a long sleeved top to protect arms and armpits. Some moves require the silk to pass under your armpit and this is more comfortable when they are covered.
Please do not wear any jewellery or clothes with zips or buttons. Long hair must be tied back for health and safety reasons. We work in bare feet or socks in aerial silks class. As you progress to intermediate levels we recommend a leotard or full jumpsuit/unitard, however this is not essential at beginner level.
